Granit Xhaka’s second-half winner gave Arsenal a 1-0 win over PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates Stadium and a place in the Europa League knockout round on Thursday.
Mikel Arteta’s men went five points clear of PSV at the top of Group A in a rescheduled game that was postponed last month due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The two teams meet again in a week, when a point for Arsenal would be enough to secure first place and direct entry into the last 16.
“I’m so happy to score. I don’t know when I scored for the last time with the right foot but so happy,” Xhaka told BT Sport.
“It doesn’t matter which foot, or who scores. It gives us confidence and on to the next one.”
A fourth victory in as many games in Europe means Arsenal have won 13 of their 14 matches in all competitions this season.
“Everything is going well at the moment but for us it is not a surprise, we’re doing a lot of work,” added Xhaka.
“We win and lose as a team and at the moment we are very dangerous. We wanted to go through and are very happy.”
The Premier League leaders dominated for extended spells but had to wait until 19 minutes from time for Xhaka to score his third goal of the season after Takehiro Tomiyasu chipped the ball back for him.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both came close to increasing the lead late on, but PSV rarely threatened an equaliser under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Arsenal, who are four points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, return to Premier League action against Southampton on Sunday.
‘Ajax football has come to United’
Owen Hargreaves, a former Manchester United midfielder, lauded the team’s effort against Tottenham.
Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0, and the score could have been higher had Hugo Lloris not made a run of saves.
Erik ten Hag stated at his news conference that he loved watching United play and thought it was the team’s most complete performance since he took over as manager.
Former Manchester United star Hargreaves believes Ten Hag is already established his style of play at former club Ajax.
2008 Champions League winner Hargreaves told Premier League Productions: “I thought United played great and that was probably [what] United fans would have anticipated, the style of football Erik ten Hag had at Ajax, that brand of football where they dominated games.
“The possession, they were aggressive, they scored goals, and that felt like the most Erik ten Hag performance from his Ajax time, it’s come to United now, that bodes well, I think United fans will be absolutely delighted.”
